Insch launches BVI hedge fund with Charteris
Posted: 02 July 2008
Swiss-based Insch Capital Management has launched a new BVI fund called Insch Insight. The fund is designed to offer a number of protected cell share classes than enable skilled, independent managers to offer their own stand alone funds within a multi-class structure.
The first such manager is Charteris Portfolio Managers, the sole advisor of the Insch Insight global macro share class. Charteris is headquartered in the City of London and headed by Ian Williams. The firm was founded in 1984, and currently manages $100 million. Charteris will invest in global equity markets with particular emphasis on the natural resource sector, including gold, oil, and metals. It has a long track record identifying, measuring, and investing in major commodity cycles, and in the stock of companies active in these markets.
As an integral part of the strategy, Charteris will also invest in G7 government bonds. It has already made its name as a fixed income player, receiving plaudits from Lipper/Morningstar for its UK gilts strategy in 2007. All investments in the global macro portfolio will be on the long side, with no derivatives exposure.
"We are absolutely delighted to have Charteris as the first manager in Insch Insight," said Christopher Cruden, the CEO of Lugano-based Insch. "The reputation, record, and reliability of Ian and his team are second to none in the City. We wanted the best for Insch Insight and we got the best."
Fees have been set at 2% management, and 20% of net new profits. The minimum investment is €100,000.
